The Feast of Trumpets has once more come and gone with the Day of Atonement (Judgment Day) next on the Biblical Calendar. [Leviticus 23:28] After the Feast of Trumpets there are ten days called - “The Days of Awe”. Ten days of searching ones soul, of hoping and praying that ones name is found in the Book of Life. [Revelation 20:12] In Revelation we see the Book of Life will one day be opened to reveal your name, or will it?
Have you ever looked at a list of names to see if you have won the prize or been accepted into the team? You look at that list time and again hoping that either you have missed your name or they have made a mistake. Your heart sinks and you go away very disappointed because you were so sure you had done more than your best, so why had you not been selected?
Transfer this search to the Book of Life and you search and search and you find nothing. Can we just imagine for a moment what that would be like. You have lived a good life, you have done all that was ever asked of you, but you have missed out on the prize. What a terrible moment that would be. So the question that must come to mind is: what else did I have to do? [Revelation 20:15]Well the simple answer is you did not have to do anything except fall to your knees and confess Jesus as Lord. [Romans 10:9] Too many people are trying so hard to please God by their works, but we must remember, good works do not save us but we are saved to do good works. [Ephesians 2:10]The Bible tells many times there is only one way to heaven, we just have to find it. [Psalm 50:23]. People search in many areas and never find true peace in what they are doing. I would say this is because they are trying to find that peace in their busyness instead of looking to the one who created that peace for all to find. [John 14:27]
There is a judgment to come and those who will pass the test are those who have called on the name Lord in confession, repentance and acceptance. [Mark 1:14-15] The name above all names, Jesus, the example to us all. [Psalm 119:105] We have to ask ourselves if we are living up to His expectations for our lives. [Colossians 3:1-4] The Word tells us we all have to stand before God and answer to what we have and not done in the life that God has given us. [2 Corinthians 5:10] In other words, once we are accepted as the Children of God [John1:1-12] can we continue to live as if we are in the World? Once saved always saved no matter what,is a discussion that many have. Surely, if we confess Jesus as Lord of our lives, then we must live as if He is Lord of our lives. [Deuteronomy 6:24] So the question of arewe still saved because of our actions should never occur if we are living as God directs, totally and without question. [Exodus 20:1-18] There are Seven Feasts, all keeping our focus on the situation when the Bridegroom returns for His Bride. [Revelation 19:7] At this time within the Days of Awe, the Jewish people are searching their hearts and past lives and for the direction of their future to ensure they are right with God. [Psalm 27]As a Christian, as a believer in Jesus, I know my name is in the Book of the One who gives Life. But surely I still have to cry the cry of David, “Search me oh God and take not your Holy Spirit from me”. [Psalm 51:10-11]The Book of life is like all books; it has a forward, a beginning, a middle, a climax and an ending. The difference of God’s Book is that it has a forward written by God and every part of it written by God; it is alive in every page crying out to the people. When they did not listen there came a climax the world had never seen. God Himself entered the pages of His Book as a living being. [Romans8:11] He did this to bring us the Crucifixion, Burial and Resurrection of His Son Jesus.[Mark 6:16] Then came the ending, or did it?
The Book may have finished but the story has not. Jesus is returning [1 Thessalonians 4:13-18] and these feast are just a prelude of what is to come. [Colossians 2:16-17] When they are fulfilled and only then will the story end and the new heaven and the new earthwill come. [Isaiah 65:17-24] So until then let us search our hearts to enable us to live as God commands, waiting, watching in such a way that if Jesus returns tomorrow we will be ready and able to stand at the Judgment seat of God knowing we have a new and livingway to enter the Holy of Holies - in English“My Father’s House”. [Hebrews 10:20]
